On the day I made this image, had not been ‘stuck’ in the Outer Hebrides, with nothing better to do, I probably would have stayed indoors. I love stormy weather, but the conditions were so extreme that I doubted any chance of a creatively nourishing outcome. Even if the weather is as bad as our worst fears, this can often yield some magical photographic results. The colour palette changes significantly, and we're gifted 'heritage' colours reminiscent of old oil paintings. Conditions that seem ludicrous to photograph at the scene, often result in soulful imagery.
